IISc / IITs JRF/ project assistant/ Research projects assistant positions
GATE score may or may not be required (qualified is also enough)
Fairly good academics is required.
Project assistant /JRF/ Research project assistant are positions are contact based positions usually for 6 months to 1 year (Extendable if performance is satisfactory or project demands) which are meant to give research experience practically. It will not give you any degree .But it is very beneficial for shaping your career. The job would involve project work assigned to you along with PhD students. The work which will reduce the load of professor /PhD student will be assigned (eg. Device Characterisation, micro fabrication etc.) As after gaining this experience, students tend to pursue MS /PhD in abroad or in India. At the end of tenure professor will give you a recommendation letter and experience letter .
The job is usually have less work load. The thing is people with less GATE score can re-attempt GATE next year.But you need to inclined towards research do not use this just to avoid sitting at home for 1 year.
Salery – 31000 + HRA (30% of salery)
On campus accomodation is generally NOT provided.
Another interesting thing is there are some seats in IITs for JRFs reserved for Mtech and PhD in your department. ( IISc don’t have this quota)
Advertisements come anytime throughout the year and can be found on official websites of IITs/ IISc.
For JRF professor will call you for online interview and sometimes online test also. And in interview they will ask basic domain knowledge + what you have read and understand in the about this project while going through advertisement.
