Regarding NHTRA Admission IIT Madras
1)Nhtra candidate will NOT get stipend & Htra candidate will get stipend. So stipend is the only difference.
2)Nhtra student can sit for placement same as Htra, and take all benefits.
3)Final Selection depends upon {in general parameters – Gate Score, BTech CGPA, Interview, written (if there),SOP}.
For Nhtra :- Here gate/non-gate both can apply, but
mostly preference will be given to those who have gate score though lesser, as parameters given above.
Example:- Last year in ED Department,70-80 candidate (gate/non gate, project associate/jrf at IIT-M) got interview call (Nhtra), finally 4 got selected (2 gate candidate, 2 jrf converted into MS).Seats will be less in Nhtra.
4) Nhtra category cannot be converted into Htra category even if one qualify gate afterwards with required gate score (if one selected w/o gate score or lesser gate score).
Once selected through Nhtra channel you will be in Nhtra category Only throughout MS.
5) Apply if you/your family can bear expenses of yours in entire duration of MS until you are not getting opportunities at IIT-M related to your research or your interest.
One should Calculate the fee of tution+hostel+your needs= you have to pay from your own pocket.
Its much lesser amount 2.5-3 lac I guess for entire duration, but return is much much better and life time IIT-M tag….an IITian tag.
6) Suggestions :- I will suggest people with lesser gate score should apply and no gate score too, wait for the interview call & give your best in interview….to get converted…if luck plays non-gate can also convert.
IIT Madras Nirf Ranking-1 since 2016. Opportunities are plenty,i.e some other fellowship, project work under lab with pay you may get etc.
Getting IIT-M at low Gate scores or in no-gate score is itself a success…to enter into one of the finest IIT in India.
